Here we are. We played the game, we hoped for the best, and that the game would find an audience and massive growth when the new movie, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, was released on July 10, 2020. But then life got flipped, turned upside down, and the movie was delay to March 2021.
This lead to a lack of marketing for the new movie, including trailers, TV spots, and the toy lines (save for the Plasma Series and Real Ghostbusters reissues). With those things missing, and a global pandemic occurring, Ghostbusters World didn’t see a lot of growth in the player base. Because of that, the amount of money players were spending on the game regularly never caught up to the amount needed to keep the license, plus developers and designers paid to work on the game.
