Every time I went past the shelves at various stores that had classic arcade cabinets for your home available to purchase, I was hoping to see The Real Ghostbusters. It was one of the games that I used to play whenever I went to the local arcade at the mall. I didn’t play it much because I was bad at it, and it cost a lot of money to get good.
In news that I was always hoping for, but never truly expecting, Quarter Arcades has announced a 1/4 scale arcade cabinet version of The Real Ghostbusters. This is something that will make its’ way into my home. I am getting one. Or two.
There’s currently no release date set, other than that it’s coming in a 2024/25 release window.
Now, this leads me to a thought that I had yesterday when I was thinking about writing this story.
First, I would love for a complete remake/remaster of this game. Something like what we’ve seen recently with games like Metroid Prime, or like we saw back in the day with Super Mario All-Stars. Another direction to take could be like when WayForward made A Boy and His Blob.
Second, I would love for there to be an all-new 4+ player game like Shredder’s Revenge. Give us great multiplayer arcade-style Ghostbusters action.
I know we have Spirits Unleashed and Rise of the Ghost Lord, but there are so many possibilities for Ghostbusters games.
