Story
A semi-corporeal spectral entity, the Yuki-onna — referred to as Yuki — is fully composed of snow. Yuki exists to trick people into danger; if her true nature is discovered before it gets close enough to attack, she will flee. If she attacks and is fended off, she may leave a gift before vanishing… but most often Yuki is just an aggressive entity that shows absolutely no mercy. This ghost is quite literally as cold as they come.
Where did Yuki come from?
We’ll start with the very brief “appearance” in a Ghostbusters property. In a Ghostbusters manga published in 2008, called “Ghost Busted,” Ray mentions a ghost called Yuki-onna. This mention happens in chapter 3, “We’re Ready to Believe YOU!”
After doing a little digging, the author of the story is Nathan Johnson who’s wife is named Yuki. It is possible, and likely, that he knew the legend of Yuki-onna and took the opportunity to also incorporate his wife’s name into the story. Clever!
I’ll do some digging later to find out if Yuki-onna actually makes an appearance in the story, or if it was merely something Ray just mentions.
